Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the rest of the upcoming IPL in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to a finger injury. The second phase of IPL 2021, which was postponed on May 4, is scheduled to start on September 19 in the UAE.
Incidentally, Washington suffered a minor injury while playing for the Select County XI in a warm-up match against India in preparation for the five-match Test series between India and England. His finger was later x-rayed and the result confirmed a fracture. However, due to that injury, he will now miss the rest of the 2021 IPL.
Sundar was an important member of RCB‘s playing 11 and always provided balance to the team. In the first half of IPL 2021, Washington took 3 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 32.11.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore’s all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2021 due to a finger injury. Akash Deep, a state cricketer from Bengal and net bowler with the franchise has been named as a replacement,” RCB said in a statement.

Bengal pacer Akash Deep named replacement for Washington Sundar:
Akash Deep has been consistently doing well for Bengal in domestic cricket for the last two seasons and was also the RCB’s net bowler at the start of this season. So RCB has included Akash Deep of Bengal as a replacement for Washington Sundar.
In the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Akash Deep was the second-highest wicket-taker of Bengal with seven wickets in five matches at an average of 19.28.
The 24-year-old cricketer has taken 21 wickets at an average of 16.85 in 15 T20s. He has also been a regular player in Bengal for the last two domestic seasons.
His 4 wickets for 35 runs against Hyderabad in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year is his best haul. Akash Deep was one of the key players of Bengal during the 2021 Ranji Trophy when the Bengal.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently third in the points table with 10 points from seven matches. They will start their IPL campaign against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi on September 20.
