Tim Southee replaces Pat Cummins in Kolkata:

On Thursday, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) signed Tim Southee for the remaining 31 matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 19.

New Zealand veteran pacer Tim Southee has been signed in as a replacement for Australia’s Pat Cummins, who withdrew his name from the league for personal reasons.

“Cummins made himself unavailable for the season for personal reasons. Southee comes in with a vast experience of 305 International games for New Zealand with 603 wickets,” KKR announced on Thursday.

“Unfortunately, at this stage, I probably won’t be going to the IPL. I haven’t made an official call on it. But my partner is pregnant and our baby is due in the middle of the IPL. At the moment, there is a travel restriction to get back to Australia, you got to do 2 weeks quarantine.” said Pat Cummins

KKR contracted Pat Cummins for Rs 15.5 crore for the IPL 2020 season, Cummins was a key member of the KKR team, he was the team’s main space weapon, and this season he took 9 wickets in 7 matches and scored 93 runs, including a career-best 66 not out against Chennai Super Kings.

“Tim has been a strong player and has been the spearhead of the New Zealand team. In the UAE conditions, we hope he will be very effective,” a KKR official said to Cricbuzz.

Southee is currently the No. 6 bowler in the ICC T20 rankings. He has also been a part of Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past. He has taken 28 wickets in 40 IPL matches at an economy rate of 8.47.

After six consecutive years in the IPL, Southee went unsold at the 2020 auction. He will now reunite with his former captain Brendon McCullum as a replacement for Pat Cummins.

The Knight Riders are currently seventh in the IPL points table with two wins and four points from seven matches. They hope the Sauthee will move on to their victory.

Adil Rashid replaces Pat Cummins in Punjab Kings (PBKS):

On the other hand, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings have signed veteran England leg-spinner Adil Rashid for the rest of IPL 2021. Rashid has been named in the Punjab squad to replace Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson, who has decided to skip the UAE leg.

Rashid, who has never played in the IPL before, is currently ranked fourth in the ICC T20 bowlers’ list. He has 232 wickets from 201 Twenty20 matches in an economy of 7.43. He is the number three Englishman in the Punjab Kings along with Dawid Malan and Chris Jordan.

Jhye Richardson, who was the fourth most expensive player in the IPL 2021 auction for Rs 14 crore. Australian Speedstar has played only three matches for Punjab Kings.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings have recently replaced Riley Meredith with young Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis, who has decided to skip the rest of the IPL 2021. A few days ago, Australia announced their squad for the upcoming T20 world cup where Ellis is one of the three reserve players in Australia.

The Punjab Kings are sixth in the points table with six points from eight matches before the tournament was postponed.
