BCCI announced Team India's Test Squad for WTC Final 2023 on Tuesday, 25th April 2023

BCCI has announced Team India’s Test Squad for WTC Final 2023 on Tuesday, 25th April 2023. Ajinkya Rahane has been included in India’s 15-man squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia to be held at The Oval from June 7.

Rahane last played a Test match for India in January 2022 against South Africa in Cape Town. Since then he has not got a chance in the Indian Test team due to his poor form.

In the recently held 2022-23 Ranji Trophy, Rahane topped the run charts for Mumbai, with two centuries at an average of 57.63 with 634 runs.

Rahane’s inclusion comes at a time when his IPL career has reached an all-time high. He earned a lot of praise for his power-hitting batting and sixes while playing for Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni. In his most recent match on Sunday night, he scored a 29-ball 71 in his man-of-the-match effort against Kolkata Knight Riders.

In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Shami, Mohammad Siraj, Umesh Yadav and left-hander Jaydev Unadkat are the specialist fast bowlers in this squad. While Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel all come into the squad as spinners.

KS Bharat retained his place as the team’s lone specialist keeper, despite several rumblings in the Border-Gavaskar series. With no place for Ishan Kishan in the team, KL Rahul automatically got a place as the reserve keeper batsman.

Shreyas Iyer, who replaced Rahane in the Indian Test team, has been ruled out with a back injury. On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav, who made his Test debut in the Border-Gavaskar series, has also been left out.

Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in the World Test Championship 2023 Final but no one has been announced for the Vice Captaincy role. But it is expected that Chesteshwar Pujara, who was Sharma’s deputy in the last two Test matches against Australia at home, would be asked to do the job again.

Australia announced a 17 men’s squad for the first two Tests of the Ashes series on Wednesday. Veteran opener David Warner has been retained in Australia’s squad for the Ashes series in England.

Also, Pat Cummins returned to the team and continued his captaincy. Steve Smith, who captained Australia in India in Pat Cummins’ absence, will be his deputy.

The 36-year-old left-handed batsman David Warner’s future in cricket’s longest format has sparked speculation as he has not been getting runs for a long time. He also suffered an injury during Australia’s recent tour of India and missed most of the Test series before returning to limited-overs matches.

The squad announced for the start of the five-Test Ashes series includes current openers Usman Khawaja and Warner as well as two other candidates to open the batting – Marcus Harris and Matt Renshaw – as options.

Cricket Australia has said they will reduce the squad to 15 men for the World Test Championship final starting June 7 at the London Oval in accordance with ICC rules for the WTC final.

The 31-year-old Mitchell Marsh has been brought back into the Test team after a long time as Cameron Green’s backup all-round option. He played the last of his 32 Tests during the 2019 Ashes series in England. He has since been sidelined by a number of injuries but showed his potential in the season’s only first-class game with a quick-fire century against Tasmania.

Todd Murphy, who made an impressive debut in India, is the team’s second spinner after veteran Nathan Lyon. Josh Inglis has been kept in the team as a reserve keeper-batsman behind Alex Carey.

On the other hand, batsman Peter Handscomb and spinners Ashton Agar, Mitchell Swepson and Matt Kuhnemann were not retained from the squad which toured India. Pace bowler Lance Morris dropped from the squad due to injury.

Along with Pat Cummins, there will be three other specialist pacers in the bowling department, Mitch Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland.

Cricket Australia selector George Bailey said about this “The UK is a very different assignment from our most recent tour of India and some of the changes are based upon the conditions we are anticipating.”

TATA IPL 2023: Who is Suyash Sharma? KKR’s New Spin Sensation.

Who is Suyash Sharma?

After watching the KKR vs RCB match on 6th April 2023, the only question in the mind of many cricket fans is who is Suyash Sharma?

Here’s everything you need to know about KKR’s new mystery spinner, Suyash Sharma, who came out as an impact player against RCB in IPL 2023, helping his team KKR win by a huge margin.

Last 6th April, in the 9th match of Indian Premier League KKR vs RCB, Suyash Sharma entered the field as an impact player instead of KKR’s player Venkatesh Iyer. The 19-year-old finished the game with figures of 3/30 from his four overs and had a dream debut in the world’s biggest T20 league.

The spinner, who came in as an impact player in the second innings, took the wickets of Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat and Karn Sharma to bring RCB to its knees and help his team KKR win by a huge margin of 81 runs.

Sharma has been brought into the KKR team from the TATA IPL 2023 auction in December 2022 at his base price of Rs 20 lakhs. In an interview with Revsportz, the 19-year-old from Delhi revealed that he started playing cricket as a batsman but later shifted to leg spin as he wanted to try something unique.

Many were surprised to see the performance of this young leg spinner that day because surprisingly he had no experience of playing professional cricket. He had not played a single List-A, First Class or domestic T20 before this and was picked up in the KKR squad after playing for the Delhi Under-25 team.

After the match, KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit said about Suyash Sharma, “We saw him in trial matches and were extremely happy with the way he bowled. He’s quick through the air, difficult to pick. He’s inexperienced but shows a very good attitude”.

KKR’s new captain Nitish Rana also said, “Suyash is a confident young man and he has belief in himself. He made his chance count and it was great to see him bowl that way”.

Jason Roy Joins KKR and Dasun Shanaka Joins Gujarat Titans For The Remainder Of IPL 2023

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed England’s opener Jason Roy for the remainder of IPL 2023. Jason Roy’s base price was 1.5 crores but went unsold, now KKR signed him for 2.8 crores.

Recently, KKR’s regular skipper Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of this IPL season, and subsequently the WTC final as well due to a back injury. On the other hand, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has opted out of the IPL.

So there are some vacancies in the squad of Kolkata Knight Riders, to fill that vacancy, KKR has included England Opener Jason Roy in their team.

Roy has previously played for four IPL teams – KKR, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad. His last appearance in the league came in the 2021 season for the Sunrisers, where he scored 150 runs in five games, including a half-century.

The 32-year-old player has played 64 T20Is for England, scoring 1,522 runs at a strike rate of 137.61 with eight fifties.

Dasun Shanaka to join Gujarat Titans:

Gujarat Titans have signed Sri Lankan limited overs captain Dasun Shanaka to replace the injured Kane Williamson in IPL 2023. Williamson was signed by Gujarat Titans from the IPL 2023 auction for a base price of Rs 2 crore.

However, New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 tournament after sustaining a knee injury in the season-opening match against Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad. With Williamson out, Dasun Shanaka joined the team for the remainder of IPL 2023 for Rs 50 lakh.

Shanaka, who has never featured in the IPL before, has now been signed for his base price of Rs 50 lakh.
