According to an ANI report, The BCCI recommends 5 cricketers for Khel Ratna and Arjuna Award. The BCCI has decided to recommend India’s women’s ODI and Test team captain Mithali Raj and Ravichandran Ashwin, senior off-spinner in the men’s team, for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award 2021, the country’s highest sporting honour.
Manika Batra, Rohit Sharma, Vinesh Phogat, Rani Rampal and Mariyappan Phangavelu were the five athletes who were awarded the Khel Ratna together last year.
Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who received the Arjuna Award in 2014, is one of India’s leading performers in Test cricket. In 2019, Ashwin became the fastest 350 Test wicket-taker. He has so far taken 413 international Test wickets in 79 matches and has taken 150 wickets in ODI cricket and 42 wickets in T20.
Recently Ashwin finished the World Test Championship 2019-2021 as the highest wicket-taker with 71 wickets. He also took 12 wickets in three matches for India in the 2021 tour of Australia and took 32 wickets and a century at home in the series against England.

Mithali Raj made his ODI debut for India against Ireland at the age of 16. At the age of 36, she became the first woman to complete two decades in ODI cricket. Mithali Raj, a 36-year-old India Test and ODI captain turned 22 in international cricket last week.
Mithali Raj is one of the most important and big names in Indian women’s cricket. She is the top run-getter in the women’s ODIs with over 7000 runs. Under his captaincy, India has reached the 50-over World Cup final twice, in 2005 and 2017.
BCCI recommends three Indian cricketers for Arjuna Award:
The board has also recommended opening batsmen Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul and fast bowler Jaspreet Boomer for the Arjuna Award 2021 for Outstanding Achievement in National Sports.
The 35-year-old opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has scored 5977 runs in 142 ODI matches and has also scored 2315 and 1673 runs in Tests and T20s. He will captain India in the upcoming limited-overs series in Sri Lanka.
KL Rahul has been one of the most important white-ball batsmen for the Indian cricket team in the last few years. So far he has scored 1509 and 1557 runs in Tests for India in 2006 and in ODIs and T20s respectively.
