The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced a 16-member men’s squad for the upcoming tour of the West Indies. Senior opener Shikhar Dhawan has been appointed as the captain of the squad, while all-rounder Rabindra Jadeja will be his deputy.

Keeping in mind the busy schedule of the Indian men’s team for the next few months including the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year, Rohit Sharma and other stars like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Jaspreet Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Mohammad Shami have been rested for three matches.

On the other hand, KL Rahul, who recently underwent surgery in Germany, has been left out of the team. So Dhawan will lead Team India for the West Indies tour.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav, Shubhaman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer have been included in the squad. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kisan have been retained as wicket-keeper batsmen. Deepak Hooda, who scored a sensational century against Ireland, has also been added to the squad.

Young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who was included in the ODI squad against England earlier this month, has retained his place alongside Prasidh Krishna, Mohammad Siraj, Avesh Khan and Shardul Thakur. Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel have been selected as spinners.

The first match of the three-match ODI series will be played on July 22 in Trinidad, while the second and third matches of the series will be played on July 24 and 27, respectively.
